I love the Galaxy games and would argue that they are the pinnacle of 3D platforming design. 2 is probably my favorite platformer of all-time.

Considering I think the Galaxy games are the best games to be released since the medium made the jump from pixels to polygons, I’d say yes, I do love the Galaxy series. Here’s hoping Odyssey captures a similar magic.

Well said! Yes, I’m interested to see how Odyssey turns out. Right now, I don’t own Switch, but maybe that game will change my mind. Even if I don’t buy the Switch, I’ll always have my fond memories of Galaxy 1 and 2.

Excellent! Not many people said that. But I was just thinking about how incredible those games were when then. And they still are.

I have only played the first Super Mario Galaxy game. At first, I found it disorientating, running around a small sphere which a constantly turning camera. As I played the game, I really enjoyed it. The design (with it’s light colour scheme) had a dreamlike quality, the 3D gameplay was enjoyable and it was interesting to create levels from groups of planets. The black holes were interesting, they used a nice design, but were ever present dangers.

I don’t remember feeling disoriented. But I do remember enjoying everything else that you mentioned. π

Super Mario Galaxy was one of the most magical games for me, bringing me to a state of bliss at a time when games weren’t doing so as much. I love the sequel even more, even if it didn’t feel as magical. They’re a bit too linear though, and I long for the more sandbox games like Super Mario 64 and Sunshine. Needless to say, I look forward to Super Mario Odyssey!

I only played the first one briefly, but never completed it. Back in the 16 bit days I was a Megadrive owner so I was brainwashed into not liking the plumber.

This is kinda embarrassing…the only time I’ve played Super Mario Galaxy was a demo at Best Buy. And I haven’t been able to find an affordable copy of any game in the series since, although I want to play them…

Nothing to be embarrassed about. Take your time and enjoy life. The games will always be there for you to one day play. π

Thanks for saying that! You make me feel a lot better.
Actually, you inspired me by making this post in the first place. Keep an eye out for a Bit-Hop track related to this series…
